Backstage is a small, private community space. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it. We keep things minimal on purpose.

What we collect

• Account details — your username, display name, and password (stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text).
• Recovery email — optional, used only to help you reset your password.
• Content you create — posts, likes, direct messages, and your profile picture.
• Basic session data — a login cookie that keeps you signed in.

How we use it

Your information is used solely to operate Backstage: to sign you in, show your posts and messages to the right people, deliver notifications you opt into, and let you recover your account. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Direct messages

Private messages are visible to you and the person you're talking to. They are stored so your conversation history is available across devices. Please treat the platform as private but not end-to-end encrypted.

Notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store the subscription details your browser provides so we can alert you to new messages. You can turn this off at any time in Settings.

Data retention & deletion

You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deleting your account removes your profile, posts, and profile picture. Once deleted, this cannot be undone.
